Message from the President

Congress 2010 was opened by Mrs Katherine Lennon, President CBAI, who expressed her joy on returning to Ballina in an official capacity having spent many of her early years in the town. This warm gracious lady wished the Congress success, now in its 34th year. Mrs Frances McAndrew, Méara Bhéal an Átha, welcomed everybody to the town to enjoy the Congress which is an integral part of the Ballina Salmon Festival.

Thanks to our Congress Patrons, Sponsors, Committee, Tournament Directors, CBAI and the hotel management for making Congress 2010 a wonderful success. Special thanks to Fr. Séamus Heverin who read Mass in the hotel on Sunday morning. I wish to express our many thanks to the President of CBAI 2010-2011 Mrs Katherine Lennon, and the President of the North West Region Mr. Larry Shine who graced the occasion and played throughout, with much well-deserved success! We thank especially all those who travelled long distances to be with us, especially those who came from Northern Ireland, England and New Zealand. We had 27 tables in the Mixed Pairs, 33 in the Congress pairs, 24 in Intermediate Pairs and 38 Teams playing. The Open Pairs attracted 28 tables on Friday night, 18 on Saturday afternoon and 13 later on in the evening, and 20 for Sunday morning and 16.5 for the afternoon.

In her closing speech, Mrs Katherine Lennon, President CBAI, complimented the Congress Committee on their high standards and for an extremely well-organized and well-run Congress. She had a special mention for the hotel and its staff who went out of their way to make her stay most memorable. Tournament Directors Fearghal O'Boyle and Mairéad Basquille as well as John and Breda Mulkearns received special mention also. She noted the record number of teams entered and expressed her admiration for Fearghal's and Mairéad's ability to run such a big tournament so smoothly, and to have instant scoring using the Bridgemates.

We hope to see you all in 2011! Stay safe in the meantime!

Gerard Moran

Congress President 2009-2010
